Arsenal star Danny Welbeck proposes alternative Arsenal attacking option to Arsene Wenger

Danny Welbeck has suggested he could play alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette rather than be used as their understudy.

The England international was on target twice as Arsenal beat Southampton 3-2 on Sunday.

With the arrivals of Lacazette and Aubameyang over the last two transfer windows Welbeck had looked set for a more peripheral role at the Emirates.

But Sunday’s performance has seen him stake a claim for a regular place in the side and the striker himself has suggested he could play alongside his fellow strikers.

‘As you’ve seen, I can play with Pierre and with Laca,’ he said.
‘It is nice. It gives you that added motivation. The competition is there so you are going to improve and better yourself.

‘I’ve had that throughout my whole career. Being at an academy where players come from all over the world and it is the same here, you are always going to have that competition. It is healthy.

‘I know I can link up with plenty of the players in this team.’
