Unai Emery believes Calum Chambers requires a season of regular first
team football if he is to realise his potential at Arsenal.
The England international signed a new long-term contract last month amid reports that Arsene Wenger’s successor had earmarked him to play a significant role in the first team this season.
Explaining his decision, Emery said: ‘Calum is a talented defender who has a bright future.
‘We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season.’

After investing heavily in a major summer overhaul, however, which has seen the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos join, Emery has sanctioned Chambers’ temporary departure.Delighted to have signed for @FulhamFC on a year long loan! I felt this was the right thing to do at this point in my career and I’m up for the challenge!
