Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero appears to have confirmed that Lucas Torreira will be joining Arsenal.
Torreira has made 74 appearances for Sampdoria since joining the Serie A outfit back in 2015 but it seems the midfielder has played his last match for the club.
The Uruguay international, who is currently at the World Cup in Russia, is set to complete a move to the Emirates for a fee of around £26million.
It’s understood Unai Emery is an admirer of Torreira and views the midfielder as Jack Wilshere’s long-term replacement, with the Englishman confirming his departure on Tuesday evening.
Asked about Torreira’s future, Sampdoria chief Ferrero told TMW: ‘Torreira has left for €30million, I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him.
‘We took a gamble on him and we won, paying just €3million.
‘The money that comes in will be used to capitalise the company.’
