Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has
been named Armenian Footballer of the Year for the seventh time in a row.
Mkhitaryan may have spent much of 2017 on the Manchester
United sidelines, joining Arsenal in January 2018, but it did not stop the
Armenia captain and record goalscorer claiming a landslide win.
“It is a great honour because it means you've achieved
something,” Mkhitaryan said. “You've accomplished something important for the
country and your followers. I am very happy to be the children's hero.
“I was a kid too, so I know what those feelings are. I too
had heroes, I wanted to be like some football player or a hero.”
Mkhitaryan has won the award one eight occasions since 2009,
missing out to Karlen Mkrtchyan in 2010 and winning the prize in every
subsequent year. No other Armenian has been named Footballer of the Year on
more than three occasions
