Arsene Wenger is cautiously optimistic that Mesut Ozil will commit his future to Arsenal.
The Gunners midfielder has less than six months remaining on his current Gunners deal to raise questions about his long-term future at The Emirates.Ozil has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United either in the January transfer window or as a free agent at the end of the season.
His team-mate Alexis Sanchez completed a move to the Red Devils earlier this week after Arsenal signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal with Manchester United.
The World Cup winner has hit top form in recent weeks despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
Wenger, though, is quietly optimistic that Ozil will commit his future to Arsenal given his recent performances for the Gunners.
“Not close enough to be optimistic and not far enough to be pessimistic,” Wenger told his media conference on Friday.
“The vibes I get from his commitment, focus and desire is that he behaves like somebody who is completely focused and committed and ready to commit.
“But after that, contract negotiations are what they are. We’re not close enough to tell you yes he will do it, I don’t know.”
Ozil has won three FA Cup titles in his four seasons at the north London side.
